Addis began in the early 1880s as Baton Rouge Junction, a division point on the Texas and Pacific Railroad, and was renamed around 1909 for J. W. Addis, the railroad official who brought a depot and hotel to town. The old Bank of Addis building, on the National Register, now houses the Addis Museum. Today the town is growing quickly as a west-bank suburb: about 6,700 people in 2020 and an estimated 7,700 by 2025, a gain of roughly 14 percent.
